Malaguti

SPORTIVO

In the 1930s, Antonino Malaguti, an up and coming cyclist, began building bicycles in Bologna, Northern Italy. Bikes eventually gave way to mopeds as the need for cheap transport grew after the second world war. Malaguti’s first moped was little more than a bicycle with a small engine. Over time, these “Velomotore” become more advanced with larger engines, suspension, and drum brakes. The company became well known for low priced runabouts like the “50 Express”. That changed in 1963 with the launch of hugely popular ‘Gransport’ that paved the way for a range of sporty 50cc motorcycles. My personal favourite is the 1964 Sportivo.
