MAGNETO & CLUTCH LEVER
Benelli T50 engine Breakdown
PART 1
In this four-part tutorial, I’ll show you how to disassemble a five-speed, 50cc Benelli T50 engine, beginning with the left-hand engine panel. I’ll provide step-by-step instructions and helpful tips to guide you. Check out my website’s “Manuals” section for the parts catalogue with exploded diagrams of the engine and transmission (link below).
01
Engine
Panel
The lefthand engine panel is removed by unbolting four 40 mm socket cap Allen Key bolts using a 5 mm (H5) Allen Key.
tip
lock the
piston
It’s important to leave the cylinder in place and lock the piston so that the magneto and clutch basket can be more easily removed.
02
Flywheel
Rotor
After locking the piston, unbolt the 17 mm hexagonal centre nut and use a 19 mm puller to remove the flywheel Rotor.
03
Stator
Plate
Three 12 mm S16 plain head screws hold the stator plate in place. Pay attention to the slots cut into the coil housing. A long narrow screwdriver works best in this confined space.
04
casing
bolts
Behind the stator plate are four casing bolts; the lower three are 40 mm socket cap Allen Key bolts, but the fourth is a long 60 mm bolt.
05
Clutch
Lever
The clutch lever is attached to the engine casing by two 20 mm socket cap Allen Key bolts. As with all the bolts, use a 5 mm Allen Key to remove them.
06
Chain
pinion
A 19 mm hexagonal bolt fastens the chain pinion in place behind it are two washers in front of an 11 tooth chain cog.
07
Clutch
Rods
The clutch lever applies force to a set of two clutch rods separated by a ball bearing. The first longer rod is 88 mm long, and the second shorter rod is 72 mm. They are held in place by a plastic seal.
